LE MARCHE IN GENERAL

Le Marche is a free unknown and still untouched area between the Apennines and the Adriatic Sea in the middle of Italy. The landscape has a varied flora and fauna. The hills are covered with vineyards and olive groves, corn fields, sunflowers and pasture land.

The surroundings lend themselves well to walks and bicycle excursions. With the car or a motor-cycle you encounter the most beautiful places and nicely restored medieval fortress villages that invite you to explore them.

In every village there is something to see or to visit:, squares, convents, abbeys, churches, museums and narrow lanes where it seems that time has stood still. Or simply socialise in the local bar enjoying the local wine or having a espresso.

Many cities have preserved their valid character. Ascoli Piceno especially is a cultura centre. Other splendid places are Fermo, Loreto and Macerata. A visit to the stalactite caves of Frasassi is unforgettable.

In spring and summer you can enjoy many concerts and opera performances, which not are only organized in the cities but also frequently in the smaller places. August is the month of the very sociable rural festivals.

The kitchen of Le Marche offers a large selection of local dishes with delicious fish, pork, pasta, olives, truffles, fresh fruit and vegetables. Beautiful DOC wines like Verdicchio, Vernaccia, Rosso Conero, Rosso Piceno and Falerio can be tasted in many enoteca's and cantinas.

The coast line of Le Marche is a chain of romantic villages on a splendid strand. Historical seaside resorts with their white strand and blue sea has everything for the most spoiled visitors.

In the hills of the Sibylline you find an unforgettable landscape. The rugged natural beauty invites you to walk and hike. In the winter you can find plenty of skiing in the Sibylline mountains. The ski areas in Le Marche are: Sarnano, Camerino, Ussita, Acquasanta Terme, Comunità Montana di San Ginesio, Monti Azzurri, Parco Naturale Gola della Rossa e di Frasassi.
